Tom Herman is a Senior Consultant at Econ One Research, Inc. Mr. Herman provides a variety of expert services consulting and valuation services for his clients. These include litigation support services where he specializes in the valuation of disputed properties and the cash flows they generate, and providing analysis and testimony regarding damages claimed in litigation. Mr. Herman performs analyses of economic damages arising from intellectual property infringement, antitrust and other complex commercial disputes including business interruption, breach of contract, and unfair competition. He conducts determinations of reasonable royalties, analyses of lost profits, calculations of diminished asset and enterprise value, corrective advertising, the identification and quantification of fraudulent transactions, calculations of defendants’ profits, analyses of domestic industry, determinations of price erosion, and assessments of market confusion.
He also provides other economic, financial and strategic consulting services including conducting business and intellectual property portfolio valuations, performing due diligence and valuation services for acquisitions and divestitures, conducting forensic accounting investigations, and developing, implementing and maintaining activity-based costing/management (ABC/M) models for clients. As part of his analysis of corporate performance, Mr. Herman has conducted assessments of sales trends, cost behavior, market dynamics, competitive impacts, cost of capital, enterprise viability in the face of bankruptcy and projected financial performance.
Mr. Herman joined Econ One from GreatBridge Consulting, Inc. where he was a Managing Director and Head of Valuation Services. Prior to joining GreatBridge, he served as a Manager overseeing claim reserve accounting in the Financial Planning & Budgeting department of Humana, Inc. Before joining Humana, he was a Director of Expert and Valuation Services for Ocean Tomo. Prior to its acquisition by Ocean Tomo, he served as a Director in Tait Advisory Services’ Intellectual Property practice. Mr. Herman previously served as a Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, serving on the firm’s national trademark litigation team. He began his career as a Consultant in the Special Services Group of the Chicago office of Ernst & Young.
Mr. Herman is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the state of Kentucky, a Certified Valuation Analyst, a Certified Management Accountant and a Certified Financial Manager. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Kentucky. Mr. Herman is also an active member of the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts and the Institute of Management Accountants.
